Peers Victoria Resources Society would like to invite you to join us for our 2016 Annual General Meeting.
When: June 29th, 2016 from 5 – 7 p.m.
Where: Peers Victoria, located at 1-744 Fairview Road in Esquimalt
Key note speaker: Jessica Woods who is a Gitxsan/Tsimshian artist, community developer and consultant who focuses on issues related to Indigenous women, gendered violence and sex work.
Jessica is the first Indigenous woman in Canada whose work as a social planner focuses solely on the health and safety of sex workers and impacted communities, gendered and racialized violence and the prevention of youth sexual exploitation at the municipal level.
A former Social Planner with the City of Vancouver, her portfolio was as a result of Forsaken, the report from the Missing Women’s Commission of Inquiry. In that position she was also the lead for the Mayor’s Task Force on Mental Health and Addiction’s Gender Forum in 2015.
She has previously held positions working on the Residential School Settlement Agreement and the NFB documentary Finding Dawn, a film about missing and murdered Aboriginal women in Canada. Jessica is also the Board Vice-President for the BC Centre for Excellence in Women’s Health and a long time organizer with the DTES Women’s Memorial March Committee.
Our AGM will begin with a meet and greet at 5:00 where appetizers and beverages will be served. This will be followed by our key note address.
Please note: We will be making an amendment to the Peers Victoria constitution at this AGM, so if you are a voting member please be sure to attend. The amendment will include an addition that states that Peers Victoria strives to, “provide affordable housing for low income people who formerly or currently work in the sex industry”.
